Zoom Tubes in place
KidsPlayce, an interactive play space for young children in Brattleboro Vermont has commissioned Garry to design and instal four musical elements. These include: Zoom Tubes, a series of ten vertical transparent tubes that contain colored pistons that are propelled upwards by pushing on ball-shaped bellows and strike ten tuned bells; The Dragon Organ, a kid-powered two octave, pentatonic organ using organ pipes from a dismantled Estey Pipe Organ (made in Brattleboro at the turn of the 20th Century) with compressed air supplied by a 6 foot long Dragon bellows suspended from the ceiling; the Musical Ball Run, played by jumping on a huge Stomp Box sending light balls flying up clear tubes which then wind around the ceiling, eventually dropping down through a series of bells and xylophone tubes; and , of course a Musical Bench Seat. This is the first bench made with an all wooden frame. This musical bench, the Zoom Tubes and Musical Ball Run are now installed. The Dragon Organ is on hold until more funding is obtained.
Jumping on the orange hemispheres shoots a ball up the clear tube and whizzing around the ceiling. When it reaches the ceiling, it randomly either rolls into the clear window box where it activates a series of musical chimes and bells, or into a sloping clear box fitted with tuned aluminum tubes. It then rolls into the starting chamber ready to be fired off again.
