WINDHAM ORCHESTRA PLAYS HARMONIC FORGE MUSICAL BENCHES

On Thursday, March 22nd and again on Sunday March 25th,  two of The Harmonic Forge’s Musical park benches were on stage at the Latchis being played by Windham Orchestra musicians and volunteer audience members in a musical piece “Music for Windham”  written by composer Jacob Mashak  and conducted by Mashak and  Windham Orchestra director Hugh Keelan simultaneously.  The piece included audience participation and featured a system of conducting gestures devised by Mashak and  improvised elements by the orchestra and the audience.  The result was a wonderful piece of collaborative community art on a scale not  often seen anywhere, let alone in a relatively small population center such as Brattleboro.

The benches performed their function as serious musical instruments beautifully and Erik and Garry  are proud to have been able to contribute to the concert.  The Harmonic Forge  looks forward to a long and creative collaboration with the orchestra , and other musicians and musical, community  and performing arts groups, as the benches are installed in the town and become foci for more community-based music-making. See our promo video for footage of the concert.
